Maro Beach - Perhaps the most famous of all Nerja beaches, backed by cliffs this beach strikes a perfect balance between tourist amenities and tranquil local beach.  Snorkelling is excellent around the cliffs and this sand and pebble beach boasts some of the clearest waters in Andalucia. You can even swim with dolphins if you’re incredibly lucky.

Parking can be tricky and you’ll nearly always have to walk down to the beach. There’s a car park in Maro, approximately a 15-minute walk down – and possibly more back up!

Mezquitilla & Lagos has smaller beach than most along this part of the coast, it’s largely reserved for the use of locals, which makes it the ideal place to  have an authentic Andalucian day at the beach. This pebble beach is great for families with sunbeds for rent and amenities to hand. In the busier months, when the number of visitors can be high, it still retains a calmer, quieter atmosphere.

For an urban beach, the sea here is clearer than at other parts of the coastline owing mainly to the presence of the pebbles over sand.

Why do we like it:

  • Easy access by car

  • Free parking close to beach (even with the high season)

  • Only 30 minutes drive from Casa Linnea

  • Restaurant El Molino

Playa el Cañuelo is A truly magical beach that sits a couple of coves along from Cantarriján. It's very hard to pick the best, but Playa el Cañuelo is definitely high on my list.

The perfect family beach, with crystal clear waters, numerous coves and underwater formations to explore while snorkelling and some great hiking (such as the walk to neighbouring Cantarriján).

But this wonderful, hidden gem of a beach, is not for everyone;  it is located within the protected area of the national park. This means that you cannot drive down the 1.5 Kms of track to the beach – you have to walk down (August- 4×4 or minibus ride down to the beach provided by the Andalusian Government).

In the Summer, it is advisable to get there early or leave after 7pm, when the heat of the day will make the walk more bearable.

There is a lovely and very tropical-looking ‘chiringuito’ (beach bar) here, so although it is very adviseable to take a supply of water and a snack with you and perhaps a picnic as the bar is not always open.

Why do we like it:

  • Clean and clear water

  • Rural

  • Good hiking and snorkling
